UPDATE ON Article V Effort to Curb Regulators!

From:  The Madison Amendment

In a speech to state legislators on Friday December 6th, Indiana Governor Mike Pence praised our efforts to use Article V to curb the authority of federal regulators as "fresh and innovative ideas to cut red tape in Washington"

After the speech he told state legislators and others that he was referring the "Regulation Freedom Amendment".

Gov. Pence also praised Senator Long's 10th-Amendment based Indiana law that prevents a "runaway convention" by giving states the power to replace delegates who ignore state limits on their authority.

The Madison Coalition is organizing a follow-up Indiana strategy breakfast on Thursday Dec 12th in Indianapolis with David McIntosh and policy staff for Gov. Pence, Senate President Long, and House Speaker Bosma.

You also may have heard about the recent Mt. Vernon Assembly of legislators interested in state use of Article V to rein in the abuse of power in Washington.

The enthusiasm for restoring the Constitutional authority of states that the authors of our Constitution intended was strong at the Conference.

Indiana Senate President Long urged legislators at the Conference to pass the 10th Amendment-based law that he authored in Indiana!

We are now in the process of finding legislative sponsors in our 30 target states for that law and for a Resolution urging Congress to propose the Regulation Freedom Amendment to require that Congress approve major new federal regulations.

More and more legislators are beginning to understand that the Madison Coalition strategy of empowering states to safely force Congress to propose an Amendment to avoid a Convention, could get an Amendment proposed as early as 2015.

That is two or more years before a Convention could be held, given the inevitable litigation over representation, delegate selection and rules.

The Regulation Freedom Amendment has what may be a unique potential to unite social, economic, and libertarian conservatives with moderate Democrats and independents for action in the next year or so.

It is important to recognize that the Article V "Regulation Freedom Amendment", "Balanced Budget Amendment, and Convention of the States efforts complement each other.

Leaders of these efforts have urged states to pass 10th Amendment-based laws that empower states to replace "faithless" delegates and prevent the risk of a "runaway convention".

And once States have learned to use Article V to force Congress to propose an specific Amendment like the Regulation Freedom Amendment, other Article V actions by states become far more achievable.

But we need your help to build the national grassroots, opinion leader, and legislative effort to curb the abuse of power by federal regulators and re-empower the states!
