LOCAL GROW - COMMERCE Your Life Line to Prosperity: Surviving in America Today

Jules Dervaes lives in the oldest residential area of Pasadena, California with his wife and children. The family bought the house in 1985 and the lot measures 66 by 132 feet. The land available for growing is 1/10th of an acre.

The Dervaes either grow all their food there or swap for what they grow for the staples they cannot grow themselves. They generate 70% of their own energy. They produce their own diesel fuel. Jules assures those who contact him that this takes no special skills, referring inquirers to the website the family put up, Freedom Gardens, to learn, network, and dig in.

Americans are beginning to get an inkling of what is in store for them. You can tell that this Christmas season because they are not shopping. Sales are Down, down, and gone and the After Christmas Sales began even before the Bailout.

By April 1st, 2009, the melt down of the economy will be complete according to a prominent member of the Republican Party in California. A year ago he was completely unaware that such a problem could exist. His livelihood depends on the present system. He is frightened. He has worked is an extremely wealthy man, a multibillionaire, who was prominent in earlier administrations. He is also panicking.

They are not the only ones who thought themselves invulnerable who are now terrified.

Six weeks ago an upscale area of Potomac, Maryland, populated by the officers of banks, the highest level of the FBI, and other monied types received notices from the IRS that they owed money. No explanation, just a demand for payment. These are the kind of people who watched smugly as the rest of us have been hammered financially over the last decade. Now, they are desperate but still dependent on the tit that provided their original prosperity. It will take them time to realize just how dead their economy really is. This sort of thing does not happen to 'their kind of people.'

By late winter or early spring, 2009 nothing about the economy as we know it will still exist. My expectations are that by early March the meltdown of the grid economy will be complete. I predicted this over a year ago.
Today more and more 'gurus' who a year ago were still living in oblivion are waking up.

The courts, all parts of the dollar based infrastructure, are now poised for the end of the world as they knew it.

War was made on us using the tools of finance. Banking, the stock exchange, the 'statutes' passed by government at all levels, these were acts of war. The debts that hang over most Americans today, were weapons aimed at stealing the whole of our lives, placing us in perpetual servitude. The move by government to take possession of mortgages is just another front intended keep their 'stream of income' flowing.

The people above were aware of the intention, they simply did not know they were included as fodder, viewing themselves as essential. Now, they are sitting in restaurants and bars and around their lavish living rooms discussing what is to be done. Don't look to them for solutions; you are undigested food, not expected to have an opinion.

A complete breakdown means the dollars we use as money today are going away. Foreign currencies are, for the most part, linked to American prosperity. What we think of as Federal Government, all parts of it, is intended to keep you moving towards the slaughter house. That is why the End the Fed after school activity program could not work. That is why all plans aimed at 'reforming' the Federal government or any of its associated corporatized partners, state governments, are also doomed to failure. All government has been converted to converting our lives and productivity into money to be transferred into their pockets.

That said, it has never been more possible to finally enact a government by the people as intended by our Founders.

An examination of the deceit used by government and corporations under color of law is becoming increasingly clear to even ordinary Americans. It is a principle of justice that there is no statute of limitations on fraud. To limit the time for discovery would make accountability impossible. What happened was a long term and carefully orchestrated fraud. The court system would normally be the means used for redress but at the present time that system has also been compromised. So what are a people to do?

The answer is to work within the Constitution by reversing the centralization of power and taking back control of government at the most local level. That largest unit is the county. The smallest unit is the family, of any size down to one person.

On the Dervaes Homestead in Pasadena worries about the economy are more remote than for most Americans. Two goats, Lady Fairlight, Pretty white goat with roan markings, a Nigernian Dwarf, and Blackberry, an African Pygmy, a salt and paper black with an enchanting spot on her head, recently joined the family. The two will soon be producing off spring. This will enable them to start their own enterprise for milk and cheese, which will be much appreciated.

The website the family put up about their own self sufficiency adventure is Path to Freedom , a site that features an icon with spade in hand upraised and the motto, “The Homegrown Revolution. Using our hands as weapons of Mass Creation!”

The event that moved the Derveas family from part time gardening to focused intention was the recall of GMO, Starlink corn in Taco Bell shells, the family had purchased at their local Vons grocery store. The corn was slipped into food for human consumption, though it was meant to be used solely as animal feed. Billions of bushels entered the human food chain in this matter illustrated to the family the potential hazards in not knowing where their food originated. That, and the problems with factory farming, well documented since the 30s, solidified their resolve.

The family today includes eight chickens, five ducks, and our two goat friends.

Jules came out of the Vietnam Era disgusted with the direction America had taken and determined to return to the independence of America's past. He sought that first in New Zealand, where he and his wife tripled the population of an abandoned mining town. However, the eminent birth of their first child took them back to family so that the child would know her own roots.

Settling finally in Pasadena so Jules could teach math the whole family pitched in to a work that is providing inspiration and insights that are being copied across the globe. The site includes social networking so that peer to peer sharing can happen freely.

The family home sits opposite a school, near the 210 Fwy. The front lawn long ago was dedicated to food production and the home gives the visitor the sense of peace and prosperity. Jules mentioned during our interview that they frequently sell produce, the family produced six thousands pounds of vegetables last year, to local restaurants that highly prize the Derveas harvest for its taste and freshness. Understanding the problems the melt down in the economy will bring the family also intends to renew the trade – barter system that was used locally until just a few years ago.

You can move off the grid at your own rate – and you will find unexpected delights as you move down the path to freedom.
