The owner of a home just up the beach from the oil spill off the Gaviota coast has filed a federal class-action lawsuit against Plains All American Pipeline, alleging negligence in an attempt to recover more than $5 million in losses and to prevent future disaster.
Santa Barbara attorney A. Barry Cappello of Cappello & Noel LLP filed the class-action suit this week in U.S. District Court
on behalf of Alexandria Geremia, who owns oceanfront property north of
Refugio State Beach, where more than 100,000 gallons of crude oil was
spilled when a Plains pipeline ruptured on May 19.
The lawsuit alleges Plains All American — owner of Line 901, the
pipeline responsible — failed to install an automatic shut-off valve
that could’ve averted the tragedy that has since killed wildlife, closed
beaches and left a lingering noxious odor of crude oil. MORE
